***SABUHA SHAHNAZ***

in a 2-day SEMINAR: 4-8pm Saturday November 17 (1/2hr break) & 11-4 Sunday, November 18, 2007 (1hour lunch)

GYPSY/ROMA FUSION & POP BELADI CANE

German-born SABUHA SHAHNAZ was fascinated by dance from childhood. Her research focuses on Oriental and folk dances from the Near and Middle East. She is a truly talented and amazing woman. Director of her own dance company and school in Augsberg, producer of her own videos and CDs, she has danced and conducted research all over Turkey (performed there extensively, including in Istanbul with Roma musicians!) and Albania (star of several concerts in Tirana) and studied with other experts in Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and North African dance.

One of her favorite styles is Turkish Roma Oryantal, so Saturday she’ll teach a Roma Fusion choreography to “Mozarella” by Kal – “not to eat, but fun to dance!”, so different from the great Egyptian Cane to “Bi Lail” by Hisham Abbas that she will teach Sunday afternoon.

Sabuha has been performing for over 25 years and was twice a special guest teacher at Morocco’s Weeklong Intensives. Her performances and classes were so well-received, that the students and audiences are clamoring for her return. Therefore this concert and seminar!

Sabuha speaks fluent English and has published articles in academic and popular German-language dance magazines. Go to her website: http://www.sabuha.de and see some of her rave reviews (there is an English version). She is a wonderful, caring and meticulous teacher … I could go on & on…

Atef & Magda

ATEF & MAGDA are master teachers with over 30 years experience teaching all types of Egyptian folkloric and Oriental dance. Based in Cairo, this wonderful husband and wife team is known and loved internationally for the quality and range of their instruction and choreography. They’ve revitalized and improved the Reda Troupe, which languished for 10 years after Mr Reda’s forced retirement & when I saw a performance at the Balloon Theater this December, I could truthfully say that it was better than ever!!!

Both performed continually with the Reda Troupe from 1975-95, Magda taking over Farida Fahmy’s most complex, acclaimed solos & they are extremely popular teachers at Raqia Hassan’s Ahlan wa Sahlan & Winter Intensive seminars, longtime directors of the American University of Cairo’s Egyptian Folkloric Troupe & have presented Egyptian theater folk dance at 45 international folk dance festivals all over the world including Germany, France, Spain, Turkey, Italy and the USA.You know my standards and I can’t say enough about them in 1 flyer.

She has also performed under contract in India, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE and Mediterranean cruises. Caroline is known for her pure Egyptian style choreographies because of her understanding of the language, music and feelings. Saturday, September 15 & Sunday, September 16, 2012:

Sat: a great, fun, energetic DRUM SOLO,
Sun: *2* ROMAN CHOREOGRAPHIES

OzgenOZGEN is known and loved internationally for the quality and range of his instruction and choreography. He has performed, taught, choreographed and directed for the last 15 years. In Istanbul, he starred in “Night of the Sultans”, combining contmporary dance, ballet and Oryantal dance and taught them for several years.

He is now based in London, teaching and performing Turkish
Oryantal and Romany dance internationally.

In January, 2009, when OZGEN was a surprise guest performer in my weeklong opening concert, he had the audience screaming for more. It took this long to get him back here! Charisma, technique, drama, choreography, looks and so, so sexy!!

TAKE YOUR OWN DANCE TO THE NEXT LEVEL AT THIS SEMINAR!!!

On Saturday, Ozgen will teach how to interpret the rhythms in the music and wow the audience with your moves, undulations, travelling steps and shimmies.

On Sunday he will teach deep technique and steps of Roman dance and how the movements work in that special 9/8. It’s important to know the cultural background of this dance, to understand the gestures and hand moves and their meaning and significance.
