Urban Karsilama: the Betrothal of the Youngest

A combination of folkloric and “Oryantal” to the joyous 9/8 Karsilama rhythm. This is a “tableau”- a theatrical story-dance exercising artistic license and not a totally authentic folk dance.

In this instance, three older, married sisters are surprised by the youngest: she has just become engaged and comes to show them her ring. They join hands and dance for joy, using both “footie” line/circle folk steps and some Oryantal movements.

In this photo Zanna Lanfray (far right) is the fiancee, her sisters are (from right to left) Leora, Varvara & Suzannah.
